Food & Wine Judges Emily Ellyn & Scott Richardson Rave About Fest

Judges for the Downtown Food & Wine Festival not only weighed in on the food at the fest, but they also gave the fest itself very high marks. Sampling the Braised Pork Belly, Quail Egg, Frisee and Arugula with Sherry Gastrique from The Vineyard Grill at the Ritz-Carlton, two of the judges took time out to give their thoughts on their festival experience.

According to Food Network’s “Next Food Network Star” contestant Emily Ellyn, aka Retro Rad Chef, “This is a phenomenal festival. I’ve eaten my way through every booth and I have to say I’m not only proud of Orlando and everyone who is a part of this Food & Wine Festival but all of the guests here are just positive, wonderful and really getting into the festivities.”

The Educated Palate columnist Scott Richardson, of The Park Press, was equally impressed. “They are on the cutting edge of educated palateness. And that’s not even a real word,” he said, adding, “We call this food porn. Love it!”

Best Of The Fest 2013 Award Winners

Downtown Food & Wine Festival judges, as well as festival patrons, had their say today when the Best of the Fest 2013 winners were announced.

MIX 105.1′s Jay Edwards took to the stage this afternoon to announce the winners.

The Foodie Award recognizes the best food item of the Downtown Food & Wine Festival for taste, unique flavor, and culinary excellence. This year’s Foodie Award was presented to Dexter’s of Thornton Park for their unique Crown Royal Maple Bacon Skewer.

The 2013 Best Overall Menu winner, awarded for overall menu creativity, depth of offerings and quality, went to Hawkers Asian Street Fare.

Siro at Marriott World Center received the 2013 Best of Show Award. The Best of Show Award recognizes the fun factor, overall energy, and crowd vibe generated by the winner.

Patrons got into the act with the award for 2013 Best of the Fest, texting in their votes for their favorite restaurant’s overall menu creativity, depth of offerings and quality. The fan favorite was The Pub.
